Nick and I went on an interesting bike tour with a park ranger in DC. The focus was on the maritime battles. We went to several monuments around DC and learned about John Ericsson (Inventor of the screw propellor and the iron-clad Monitor), Admiral Farragut (Led Union forces in New Orleans and Mobile Alabama), Raphael Semmes (Commander of the Confederate ship Alabama), and Captain John Winslow ( Captain of the Kearsarge, who defeated Semmes off the coast of France).
The take away message was that the Navy was very important in the Civil War and is under appreciated today for what they did.
carly - this looks like so much fun - and it is SOOOOOO you guys. go navy! xoxo
