and happy fathers' day
We had such a great time seeing lots of you on Sunday! Thanks to everyone for the delicious food and the good visits. I especially appreciate all the great dads in our family--thanks to you for all you do for us. (I forgot to get my camera out until after many of you had left; but here are a few shots to remember the day.)

LET'S PLAY SARDINES!
What a great sign-in name for the Stevens Family Blog! Anyone remember diving and quickly lying down in the back of the old blue truck parked on the drive-way? Such fond memories!
Thanks, Jane, for setting up the Stevens Family Blog--and for teaching me how to use it. I so enjoy reading the fun, interesting and informative postings and look forward to more.
Much love to all of you on this absolutely gorgeous, sunny, clear day in Salt Lake City.

Civil War Bike Tour: The Navy was very important.
Nick and I went on an interesting bike tour with a park ranger in DC. The focus was on the maritime battles. We went to several monuments around DC and learned about John Ericsson (Inventor of the screw propellor and the iron-clad Monitor), Admiral Farragut (Led Union forces in New Orleans and Mobile Alabama), Raphael Semmes (Commander of the Confederate ship Alabama), and Captain John Winslow ( Captain of the Kearsarge, who defeated Semmes off the coast of France).
The take away message was that the Navy was very important in the Civil War and is under appreciated today for what they did.
